I have found my cross,
That noble, cursed tree,
And in its rough-hewn grain I see
All my ambitions, all of my dreams,
Every hope of glorious deeds
And longing for renown.

Taking up my heavy cross,
I smile as the fears abate:
It is a deep relief to find
I love You more than I love these.

And here, under this weight of loss,
I find something more, too.
There is glory in the ordinary,
Greatness in the mundane,
Honor in the normal,
Adventure in the every-day,

And sweetness, which surpasses
Any fulfilled aspiration,
Simply to be here in Your presence.
