Friends, Phoenix Fiction Writers' Antihero anthology came out two days ago! It's been a weekend full of celebration: Livestream parties on Facebook and Youtube, sweet roll baking, boba tea, and The Crimes of Grindelwald (and, of course, writing, because it's still NaNoWriMo). I finished reading all of the short stories in this anthology on Friday, the day … Continue reading Featured Story: The Wolf at the Door

I would do a clever opening, but NanoWrimo just started, so I'll cut right to the chase for all our sake. General Disclaimer: While I love grammar, I'm also new at learning it. I will do my best to explain things correctly. If you find that I've misunderstood or misrepresented something, please share that in … Continue reading The Basics: Verbs, Adverbs, and Prepositions
I love reading, and I enjoy a lot of books. Every so often, though, I run into a book or series that stands above the rest, that sucks me in and draws me fully into another world. Kyle Robert Shultz's Beaumont and Beasley series is just such a series, and I'm honestly surprised that I haven't … Continue reading Featured Books: The Beaumont and Beasley Series

Here's a poem that came to me recently.
Grammar. Ugh. Gross. That's the attitude I used to have, and the attitude most people of my acquaintance still have, toward grammar. I grew up prejudiced against this subject, indoctrinated to view it as a convoluted conglomeration of stupid rules and pointless terms meant to box me in. Like any good American, the refrain of my writer's heart was, "Don't fence me in." I never learned grammar in school, a truth which I blame on my attitude more than on my teachers. I did just enough to get by, but as soon as the test was over I wiped it from my head. "I don't need to know the terms," I used to protest. "I have a strong practical understanding of grammar because of how much I read and write, and that's more important." Yeah, I was wrong.
This past year, I joined together with a group of incredible authors to form the Phoenix Fiction Writers (PFW). We are a marketing collective of indie authors of science fiction and fantasy stories with similar themes and goals. I'm always excited about PFW, because these were (and are) among my favorite indie authors, and now … Continue reading Phoenix Fiction Writers Sampler Bundle
