Slavery in the United States officially ended on December 6, 1865. A common assumption is that this means slavery is no longer an issue in the world. This is far from the truth. In our world today, there are an estimated 35.9 million people held in slavery. About 50% of those people are children, and about 70% of those people are women¹.

On December 1, I will be joining with women around the globe to raise money for organizations like International Justice Mission (IJM) who fight to end modern slavery through a challenge called Dressember. Dressember is about “leveraging fashion and creativity to restore dignity to all women”–and to all people. The challenge is to wear a dress every day for the entire month of December.

I invite you to participate with me in a couple ways. First, you’re welcome to join me in dress-ing for change. You can sign up to participate in Dressember here. Second, you can join me in spreading the word. Change can’t happen unless people know there is a problem. Third, you can sponsor me or my team, or donate directly to the Dressember Foundation. 100% of all funds raised go directly to IJM and the other organizations with whom Dressember is partnering.

Thanks for taking the time to read and care :)
