It never ceases to amaze me the ways in which God speaks to us.  He knows exactly how we will listen, exactly what we need to hear, and He loves us enough that He says it in precisely the right way at precisely the right time.

Sometimes, He whispers in our ears.  Sometimes He draws our eyes to a passage of Scripture.  Sometimes He speaks through other people.

And sometimes we’re so stubborn that He figuratively and literally writes in the sky.

For example, when one of my friends told God she would not get married unless He literally wrote “marriage” in the sky–He actually did it.

I’ve had a couple experiences of this recently.  I may have mentioned a specific time last fall.  Near finals time, I needed to study, but was procrastinating.  I felt so distant from God, and wanted to be closer, but I kept backsliding.  I was not in a good mood.  When my sister asked me to put clean our room, I only agreed because God clearly told me I should, and so I went to do it like a petulant child.

I was scarcely two steps in the door when a song came on my sister’s shuffle, the song “Obsession,” by the David Crowder Band:

Before I knew what was happening, I was on the floor sobbing as God reached into my heart, grabbed the grimy, sticky, black gunk inside it and squeezed it into dust, filling me up with the warm, glowing pink and yellow light of forgiveness and joy.  A new start.

And then, there was last night.

Yesterday was one of the craziest days of my life.  I had a lot planned for the day, but what actually took place was entirely different.  The whole day took me from one surprise and new experience to another.  it wasn’t all bad.  Some of it was quite good.   Yet by the time half the day had passed, I felt ill equipped to respond to any of it.

As I sat in traffic on the freeway last night, I just told God everything, in the plainest words I could find.  Then I glanced up.

It wasn’t a rainy day.  It wasn’t even particularly cloudy.   But there was a rainbow in the sky.  A rainbow reminding me that God is faithful and promising me that, whatever lies ahead, I will not be completely destroyed.

God knows exactly what we need.  Rest assured to day.  Your Father loves you.  Your Father is paying attention.  Your Father is faithful, and He will speak at just the right time.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” ~ Jesus, Matthew 28:20

Gungor, “Higher”

There is no one,
There is no one like You,
No one like You.

Only good things
Could ever come from You.
Even Your judgments
Are righteous and true,

And Your name is sweeter
Than the rain that falls upon
The face of dry and weary lands
And causes us to turn our face again.
Your name be praised

And be lifted higher
And be lifted higher
And be lifted higher
And be lifted higher

There is no one,
There is no one like You,
No one like You.

And every morning
There are mercies new.
Your kindness
It brings us back to You.

Your name is stronger than the pain
It’s covering the shame
Of all these weary hands
And causing us to turn our face again
Your name be praised

And be lifted higher

Your name is sweeter
Than the rain that falls upon
The face of dry and weary lands
And causes us to turn our face again
Your name be praised
